Advice for international students
If you are an international student looking to do postgraduate research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, here are some areas you’ll need to consider.
English Language requirements
- All applicants will need to demonstrate competency in English language.
- Check the specific English language requirements for your programme in our course profile section.
- Check the specific tuition fees for your programme in our course profile section.
- If your transcripts are in a language other than English, you must provide an official English translation. If your current weighted average mark or GPA is not included on these documents, please also include an official document from your university verifying this information.
Visa and ATAS requirements
- Most international students will need to obtain a Student Route visa to study at The University of Manchester, however visa requirements can vary depending on your circumstances. For further information on the visa requirements that apply to you, please contact our admissions team.
- You shouldn’t apply for ATAS until you have received your offer. However, once you are an offer holder, The Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) requires that students studying certain subject areas at MEng / MPhys / MSci undergraduate level, master's or PhD level obtain ATAS clearance. Before applying, be sure find out more about ATAS clearance, its requirements and its exemptions.
